Kanaka Durga Temple History :
Once upon a time, Yash Keela worshiped Goddess Durga rigorously and the Goddess was pleased and granted him a wish for which Keela asked the goddess to remain in his heart. Goddess Durga replied to him by saying, “My son, you stay here as a mountain near the river Krishna. I will remain in your heart after the assassination of the demons in Krita Yuga.
Located on the banks of the river Krishna, Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, Kanaka Durga temple is the second largest temple in Andhra Pradesh. Here, Kanaka Durga is self-manifested and is considered very powerful. Kanaka Durga Temple is known for its Dravidian Style Architecture. Since then, Indra and all other gods of the universe had been worshiping her every day. There is a Sri Chakram on the left side of Goddess Durga and besides that, there is an idol of Ganesha. The temple is commonly called Vijayawada Kanaka Durga Temple and here Goddess Gurga has eight arms Chakra, Arrow, Bow, Trident, Club, Conch, Spear, Sword, and Lotus.
Indrakeeladri is unique in the way that Goddess Durga here resides on the right side of her consort Malleshwara Swamy which is against the tradition that all goddesses stay on the left side of their consorts thus representing the fact that Sakhti is more powerful on Indrakeeladri.
Another legend says that Goddess Durga borrowed the nose ring from Krishna and went to the top of the hill to avoid returning it. At the end of Kaliyuga, Krishna promised to raise her water level to the hilltop to get her nose stud back.
