About Makara Sankranti Festival:
Makara Sankranti is one of the most important festivals celebrated in India. According to English Calendar, Makara Sankranti is celebrated every year in the month of January. Makara Sankranti is a 3 days festival. The first day is called Bhogi, the second day is the main festival Makara Sankranti and the last day is considered as Kanuma festival. Bhogi, Makara Sankranti, and Kanuma are also called Harvest festivals. The season in which the Sankranti festival is celebrated is the harvest season and people celebrate it as a festival. After harvesting their crops people will offer a part in their first crop to the god. Sankranti Festival is mainly dedicated to Lord Surya.

Sankranti festival implies the movement of the God Sun. On this day Sun moves into the Zodiac sign, Makar. And it is also said that Sun God travels from Dakshinayanam to Uttarayanam. Ayanam means a period of 6 months and during the first 6 months after Sankranthi God Sun will be in Uttarayanam.
Makara Sankranthi is also called as Festival of Rangolis and Festival of Kites. Jallikattu is the traditional game of Tamil Nadu State in which lakhs of people participate. The Kite festival is also conducted on the day of Makara Sankranti. In Telugu states, people will celebrate theĀ Makari Sankranti festival for 3 days, and during these 3 days, people will draw colorful Rangoli before their houses. Even Rangoli Competitions will be conducted at many places. People prepare various types of sweets with the crops they harvested and offer them to Sun God and enjoy the festival with great eve.
