By Puranas, it is believed that on the day of Karthika Pournami Lord Shiva killed Tripurasura, a demon. And also it is said that after killing Tripurasura Lord Shiva destroyed three cities called Tripura.

One of the most important poojas in Karthika Masam is Tulasi Pooja and it is also known as Utthana Dwadasi Pooja. On this day Brindavan of Tulasi is decorated nicely and performs Kalyanam. This pooja is considered very powerful and performing Tulasi Kalyanam pooja with Bhakti gives health, wealth, and high prosperity.
