According to the legend, Lord Narasimha made an appearance in front of the Saptarishis and bestowed upon them the gift of Mukti. It is stated that the Lord made an appearance for a period of twenty-four minutes; hence, anybody who prays on this hill for twenty-four minutes will have their sins forgiven.
Because of this, the hill was given the name Kadigachalam, which in Tamil literally means “24 minutes Hill.” Chalam is the word meaning hill, hence the name literally translates to “24 minutes Hill.” It is also said that Lord Narasimha bestowed the gift of Mukti onto Prahalad when the latter was sitting in a certain yoga stance.
During the reign of the Vijayanagara Dynasty, this temple was built on the land that was under their control. Both Sri Acharya Swami and Swami Doddachar were instrumental in the building of the temple and provided assistance in many ways.
It is stated that Anjaneya assisted monarch Indrathymna in his war against the demons Arakkan Nikumban, which ultimately resulted in the monarch reclaiming his realm with the assistance of Anjaneya. Anjaneya was successful in accomplishing this goal thanks to his engagement in fight with the king. This is the spot where Lord Anjaneya deceived everyone thereby assuming the form of a yoga pose and appearing in front of them all. The temple is host to a number of different festivals, the most notable of which are the Chittirai Brahmotsavam, which takes place during the Tamil month of Chittirai (between the months of April and May), the Karthigai Thiruvizha, which takes place during the months of November and December, and the Narasimha Jayanthi, which takes place during the months of Vaikasi (May and June).
