What are the timings of Pattadakal Virupaksha Temple?
The Pattadakal Virupaksha Temple welcomes visitors beginning at nine in the morning and stays open until seven o’clock in the evening.
The Virupaksha Temple is an old Hindu temple that can be seen in Pattadakal, Karnataka. It is situated around 400 meters away from the Pattadakal Bus Stand. It is the largest and most beautiful of all the temples that can be seen in Pattadakal, and it is one of the spots that are required to be visited on every tour of Pattadakal.
The Virupaksha Temple is the sole functional shrine among the complex of temples in Pattadakal, and it is one of the most well-known destinations in the city. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. Queen Lokamahadevi, the wife of the Chalukyan emperor Vikramaditya, is credited with constructing the temple in 745 AD as a means of commemorating her husband’s victory against the Pallavas of Kanchi.

Why is Pattadakal Virupaksha Temple more famous?
The temple was constructed in the Dravidian architectural style, and it features three Mukhamandapas on each of its three sides, as well as a massive stone doorway on the east side that faces the Malaprabha River. After entering through a vast pillared hall, one arrives at a sanctuary that has a circular route for Pradakshinas. Wonderful sculptures of gods and incidents from the Ramayana and Mahabharata may be seen on the Mukhamandapas as well as the pillars of the hall.

The roof of the Mukha mandapa is decorated with several beautiful pictures, such as one depicting Brahma seated on a lotus flower. The temple’s outside walls have a number of impressive sculptures, including Hanuman hoisting Sanjivani Hill and Gajendra Moksha, among others.
On the other side of the shrine is a massive mandapa called the Nandi mandapa, which has a monolithic Nandi made of black stone. A select number of exquisite sculptures of female figures may be seen on the walls of the Nandi mandapa. This temple is sometimes cited as the inspiration for Ellora’s more well-known Kailasa Temple. There is an inscription carved into the stone that was made in the year 733 A.D.
