What are the fasting rituals to be followed on Krishnashtami?/ What are the fasting rituals of the Krishnashtami festival?

As part of the festivities commemorating the Krishna Janmashtami holiday, many devotees choose to abstain from food and drink for the whole day. Traditionally, the fast is observed beginning one day before the birth of Krishna, and it is broken immediately after the celebration of his birth. After midnight, the pooja will begin with the idol of Krishna being given a bath, being cleaned, and then being put into a cradle after being dressed in new garments that have been prepared just for Krishna.

Prasad is the name given to the offerings of fruits, sweets, and other foods that are made to Lord Krishna as part of the act of worship that consists of singing devotional songs and praying to him. After doing so, individuals consume these foods in order to end their fast. In addition to the festivities that take place inside homes, the Janmashtami puja is also performed within temples, where a large number of devotees take part in the ritual.

During the fasting period for Janmashtami, no consumption of grains is permitted until the following morning after sunrise, when the fast is broken. During the fasting of Janmashtami, one must also adhere to all of the restrictions that were observed during the fasting of Ekadashi.

Parana, which literally translates to “breaking the fast,” must take place at the correct hour. For those who are fasting for Krishna Janmashtami, the Parana ritual is performed the day after sunrise on the next day, once Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra have passed. If Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra do not finish before the sun goes down, then the fast may be broken during the daytime when either Ashtami Tithi or Rohini Nakshatra is finished.

When neither Ashtami Tithi nor Rohini Nakshatra ends before Sunset or even Hindu Midnight (also known as Nishita Time), one should wait until they both end before breaking the fast. This is because Nishita Time occurs at the same time as Hindu Midnight.

The length of the fast on Krishna Janmashtami may vary from one day to the next depending on when the Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra lunar cycles come to an end. Those devotees who are unable to sustain a fast for two days may break their fast on the morning following the second day’s sunrise.
