Bhadrachalam Temple History:

The history of Sree Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Vari Devasthanam can be traced back to the 17th century when a Bhakta Ramadasa by the name of Gopanna served as a Tahsildar in the Kingdom of Golconda, which was ruled by Abdul Hassan Tanah Shah. At that time, the devasthanam was known as Sree Seetha Ramadasa Swamy Vari Devasthanam. Lord Sri Rama had a devoted devotee in Ramadasa, who was known as Ramadasa. Without obtaining authorization from his superiors, he renovated the Bhadrachalam Temple using cash obtained from the government’s taxation of its citizens and had various articles of gold and expensive gems custom-made to adorn the idols of the temple.

As it was a crime committed against the monarch, the Nizam had him locked up in the Golconda Fort as a form of punishment. In reaction to Lord Rama’s silence during his incarceration for his committed devotion to the Lord, he composed a number of poems about Lord Rama while he was locked up. These poems laud Lord Rama and comment on Lord Rama’s quiet. Lord Rama made an appearance to Tanah Shah in his dream and reimbursed the money that Ramadasa had used to construct the Ram Mandir. As a direct consequence of this, the Nizam provided Bhadrachalam Devasthanam with a number of unique endowments.
