According to the Hindu calendar, Anantha Chaturdashi is celebrated on the 14th day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. According to Sanathana Dharma, Anantha means Endless, by this it is shown that by performing Anantha Padmanabha Vratha people can get relieved from endless sorrows and get enormous property and wealth. According to Puranas, it is said that after a long war with demons, Lord Sri Maha Vishnu decided to take a rest and sleeps on Aadhi Sesha. The idol of Anantha Padmanabha Swamy will be as Lord sleeping on Aadhi Shesha.

Anantha Chaturdashi Padmanabha Vratam Procedure:

  1. On the day of Vratham, People have to take a head bath in Morning and after that idol or photo of Padmanabha Swamy is kept ready for pooja.
  2. The idol of Padmanabha Swamy is decorated with flowers and before pooja Kalash full of water treated as the Yamuna is kept before the idol.
  3. According to Sanathana Dharma, the Number 14 holds a significant place in this pooja.
  4. People who perform pooja for 14 years and perform udyapana, at last, are said to be completed a cycle of pooja. It is also said that people who perform pooja for 14 years without interruption will be in a good position.
  5. During Anantha Padmanabha Swamy pooja, Lord is offered 14 types of flowers, 14 fruits, and 14 types of leaves.
  6. 14 threads that are knotted are also presented to Lord Padmanabha Swamy, and after completion of pooja, these threads are tied by the women on their left hand and men on their right hand.
  7. Food is also prepared with 14 types of vegetables and offered to Lord Padmanabha Swamy.
