Nagula Chavithi is celebrated on the fourth day following Deepavali Amavasya in the Karthika month as a festival to honor the Serpent Gods or Nag Devatas. Married women typically observe Nagula Chavithi for the benefit of their kids.

In various areas of Karnataka and the state of Andhra Pradesh, Nagula Chavithi is a well-known celebration. Any Puja offering made to snakes is thought to be accepted by the Serpent Gods. Since Serpent Gods are revered and adored in Hinduism, many worships live snakes on this day with the idea that they symbolize these deities. Although there are many serpent gods, at the Nagula Chavithi Puja, only twelve are worshipped.

Ashtanga (eight hooded cobras) is worshipped and placated during Nagula Chavithi. At the “Valmeeka” or “Putta” (snake pits), milk, dry fruits, and occasionally even eggs are offered to “Sarpa Devata” to placate the Snake God.
