Ratha Saptami/ What Is Ratha Saptami:
The Ratha Saptami festival is related to the Sun God. According to the Hindu Dharma Ratha Saptami or Surya Saptami is also called as Birthday of the God Sun. Every year Ratha Saptami is celebrated on the day of the Saptami of Sukla Paksha during the month of Magha. According to the English calendar Ratha Saptami is celebrated in the months of January – February. Ratha Sapthami is celebrated almost all over the country. According to Hindu Mythology, it is said that God Sun was born to Saint Kashyap and his wife Aditi. On the day of Ratha Saptami people recite Aditya Hrudayam and also various Slokas of God Sun.

In the year 2023 Ratha Saptami is celebrated on January 28, 2023, Saturday.
Saptami Tithi starts from January 27, 2023- 09.00 AM and ends at January 28, 2023 at 8.45 AM.
Ratha Saptami Pooja Procedure:
- On the day of Ratha Saptami or Surya Saptami, God Sun is honored in a great manner.
- On the day of Ratha Saptami, people get up early in the morning and take a head bath before sunrise.
- There is a special ritual of bathing on the day of Ratha Saptami, people prefer to take bath with Jilledu Leaves or Arka Patram.
- By following this bath ritual there is a belief that diseases will be cured.
- After that people perform Arghya pradanotsavam to the God Surya.
- For giving Arghya people have to face the Sun and take some sacred water in their hands, after that they should leave the water in the bowl by showing it to the Sun.
- On the day of Ratha Saptami people cook various food items and offer them to God Sun as Naivedhyam.
