The mythology that is told most often in connection with the temple goes as follows: “According to a myth, Goddess Sati caused Lord Shiva a great deal of anguish by sacrificing her life in the Yagna ritual. He began his Taandav dance after picking up the dead body of Sati and placing it over her shoulder. This appalled every god and goddess in heaven since it had the potential to start a nuclear war. This compelled Lord Vishnu to release his Chakra, which severed the corpse of Sati into fifty-one pieces. The Shri Naina Devi Temple is the location where Sati’s eyes were discovered.” Because of this, she is known as Sri Naina Devi Ji.

The temple is perched on the summit of a hill, and the only way to get there is either on foot or in a chariot pulled by hand. In addition, one may take a ropeway up to the peak of the hill if they so want. After passing through the front entry gate, guests will see a large Peepal tree off to the left side of the path. Idols of the Hindu gods Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman may be seen just across from the tree. As guests arrive at the main temple, they will be met by two sculptures depicting lions standing guard.
There are three idols located inside the inner sanctuary of the temple. Kali Devi is located on the left, the Eyes of the Shakti are located in the center, and Lord Ganesha is located on the right. The whole path that leads up to the temple is dotted with little businesses that offer prasad and other mementos to take home with you. During important Hindu holidays, the temple may become exceedingly busy since it is visited by thousands upon thousands of people. This temple is widely considered to be one of the most sacred in the nation.
