When is Nagula Chavithi Celebrated?
Nagula Chavithi is celebrated on November 17, 2023.
During the month of Karthika, the festival of Nagula Chavithi is observed on the fourth day following the Amavasya of Deepavali. It is also celebrated during the month of Sravana in some parts of Andhra Pradesh, India, which is located in southern India. After Naga Chaturthi, the festivals of Bother Panchami and Nagasashti are observed.
The Nagula Chavithi festival is held to honor the Nag Devatas, who are considered to be serpent gods. This festival is mostly attended by women. Many married women go to Nagula Chavithi to ensure the health and happiness of their offspring.
During the Chavithi festival, the women wear their hair pulled back and watch the Naga Puja. At either the Valmeekam or the Putta, devotees present Sarpa Devata with drained and dried organic offerings. The rituals and procedures for doing puja are distinct from one location to the next. A select few individuals have an icon of the Naga Devatha in their homes and often do puja.
In any event, in some locations, followers make their way to the ‘Putta’ Snake pit in order to present Naivedyam and to carry out a variety of pujas there.
