On the ninth day of Dasara, also known as Mahanavami, the royal sword is venerated and then carried through the streets in a parade accompanied by elephants, camels, and horses that have been decked up in elaborate costumes. The ceremony is very much like the Ayudha Puja that is performed on the Navami Tithi during the Navratri festival.

The traditional Dasara parade takes place across the streets of Mysore on the tenth day, which is also known as Vijayadashami. During the procession, an image of the goddess Chamundeshwari is carried on a golden howdah that is balanced on the back of a decked elephant. The procession is accompanied by tableaus, dancing groups, music bands, adorned elephants, horses, and camels.

The five-kilometer-long parade begins at Mysore Palace and ends at Bannimantapa, where devotion is performed for the Banni tree. The procession begins and ends at the same site. The huge and well-known elephant procession is referred to as Jumbo Safari in the local language.

On the evening of Vijayadashami, the celebrations of Dasara climax with a parade under torchlight. This procession is known in the area as Panjina Kavayatthu.
