The Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the most well-known temples in all of Mumbai. It is devoted to the goddess Mahalaxmi, who is considered to be the temple’s ruling deity. Dhakji Dadaji, a Hindu trader, commissioned the construction of this beautiful temple in 1831. When portions of the sea wall of the construction fell twice in 1785, it was because the main engineer of the project, Ramji Shivji Prabhu, had a dream of a devi statue in the water near to Worli.
This is when the myth of the arrival of the temple became related to the building of the Hornby Vellard at the same time. After he had finished constructing the temple, he was finally able to make significant progress on the Vellard. The inside of the temple is ornamented with statues of the three forms of the goddess Mahakali, Mahalaxmi, and Mahasaraswati.
