Mahalaya Amavasya:

Mahalaya Amavasya is observed on Bhadrapada Masam, Krishna Paksha Amavasya. Mahalaya Amavasya is also known as Pitru Amavasya. On this day Pitru karmas like Sraddha and others are done in the favor of ancestors or Pitru devatas. Every year according to the English calendar Paksha Masam is observed mostly in the month of August – September.

After the day of Mahalaya Amavasya, the next day is celebrated as the beginning of the Navaratri festival. Mahalaya Amavasya is mainly known for pitru Karya. It is believed that performing Pitru Karya on Mahalaya Amavasya gives good results and also one can relieve from major Pitru doshas.

Every year Mahalaya Amavasya is observed on the last day of the Bhadrapada Masam otherwise known as Pitru Paksha Amavasya.

• Timing starts between September 25 2022 3.15 Am to September 26 2022 3.25 Am.

Procedures And Rituals Followed on Mahalaya Amavasya:

1. On the day of Mahalaya Amavasya people have to take bath in any holy River and start the program.
2. Mainly performing Mahalaya Amavasya near any River or Holy water gives more accurate results.
3. On the day, Pinda Pradhana is considered the main process.
4. After the Sraddha process, the performers have to perform various Daanas in the name of their ancestors.
5. Performers have to offer food for Brahmins or for the people in need of Food after the completion of Shraddha.
