Singari Shankaraiah, who had been influenced by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, initially erected a Ganesh idol of 1 foot (0.30 m) in height in the year 1954 at a temple located in Khairatabad. The erected idol’s height climbed by one foot every year until it reached 60 feet (18 m) in 2014 when it achieved its maximum height.
Later, in order to accommodate the constraints of the path leading to Hussain Sagar Lake and address environmental concerns, the size was scaled down. The top height of the idol in 2019 was 61 feet (19 m), making it the tallest idol of Ganesh in India during that year.
