Hindu Tamils primarily commemorate Karthigai Deepam. One of the oldest festivals observed by Tamils is this one. In the evening of the festival day, rows of oil lamps, or Deepam, are placed along streets and houses to illuminate them. In Tamil Nadu workship Masik Karthigai every month. Hindu mythology states that on this day, Lord Shiva transformed into an unending flame of fire to demonstrate his superiority to Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma.
Even though Karthigai Day is observed every month, it is the Karthikai month that has the most important day (which is the same as the Solar month Vrischika in other Hindu calendars). All of the Karthikai days in the year, including the most important Karthikai day known as Karthikai Deepam.
The Tiruvannamalai Hills’ Karthigai festival is well-known. A massive fire lamp that can be seen for miles surrounding the hill is lit up on Karthigai day. Hindu devotees come to this place to offer prayers to God Shiva at the Mahadeepam fire, also known as Deepam.
