Ganpatipule Temple History And Significance

There are many legends that circulate concerning the temples and the gods who reside there. Around 500 years ago, when the Moguls were in power, there was a ‘Kevada’ (flower tree) forest at the foot of the hill where the “Swayambhoo” Ganpati is located today. This forest existed during the time when the Moguls were in power. A Brahmin by the name of Balbhatji Bhide called this place home.

Because he was such a determined person, he made the decision to abstain from food and drink until his predicament was resolved, despite the fact that he had previously experienced a significant personal setback. As a result, he resided in the Kevada forest for the purpose of doing penance and worshiping his guardian deity, “Mangalmurti,” Lord Ganesha.

During this time, Bhide got a vision of Lord Ganesha in his dream. In this vision, Lord Ganesha informed Bhide that he had come to Aagargule (Ganesh Gule) in his “nirakar” (void) form to alleviate the suffering of all of my followers. Because of this, you perform acts of adoration and appeasement here.

During the same time period, one of the cows that belonged to Bhide was unable to produce milk. As a result, the cowherd made sure to keep a careful eye on the animal. He could not believe his eyes when he saw milk pouring out of the udder of the cow that was standing on the spot where the idol of the god was now situated.

When Bhide had finished cleaning up the whole area, he discovered the statue of Ganesh that he had seen in his vision. The cowherd had told Bhide about the event. As a result, he constructed a shrine on top of the grassy hill there, and there he began carrying out his first rites.
