Naraka Chaturdashi is usually celebrated a day before the Deepavali festival. Actually, in some parts of the country, Deepavali is celebrated for 5 days. In some areas, the Deepavali festival is celebrated for 3 days. The 3 days festival of Deepavali puja starts with Dhana Trayodashi. On this day in some areas, people perform Ganga Puja. The next day of Dhana trayodashi is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi.

Why is Naraka Chaturdashi Celebrated:

The day before the Deepavali festival is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi. According to the Puranas, Naraka Chaturdashi is celebrated as the demon Narakasura was killed on that day by Lord Krishna and his wife Satya bhama Devi in a war. To celebrate this On the day of Naraka Chaturdashi every year the big effigy of Narakasura was burnt. The day next to the Naraka Chaturdashi is celebrated as the Deepavali festival.
