Significance of ISKCON Temple:

The ISKCON temple serves as a hub for the creation and study of religiously inspired art and culture. Additionally, the temple encourages the practice of South Indian art and craft among its visitors. The temple is a component of the establishment of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), which was founded in 1965.

To renounce materialism and connect with a spiritual identity that displays unconditional love is the goal of the temple, which serves as its primary function. This is represented graphically as a spectacular chandelier that reflects a variety of colors on the ceiling and walls of the room. It is believed that the spiritual energy of the temple would be amplified by the chandelier, which is made up of five hundred Himalayan quartz crystals. The temple incorporates a wide variety of Vaastu Shastra principles.

The classic Hindu texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam, serve as the basis for ISKCON’s most basic principles. There is a bookstore in close proximity to the temple’s main entrance.

What is the history of Chennai ISKCON Temple?

Swami Prabhupada is credited with laying the groundwork for the ISKCON worldview in the city of New York, which is located in the United States. After spending some time in New York, Swami traveled back to India and immediately began spreading the philosophy of Krishna and the message of peace across a number of locations in India.

In 1972, Swami Prabhupada made a trip to Chennai and gave talks all throughout the city and the surrounding areas. After a period of three years, a little center was established in Kilpauk; it was subsequently relocated to T. Nagar. There, the concept of ISKCON picked up steam, and it quickly developed a significant following among the people of Chennai.

After that, Swami Prabhupada sent a letter to the followers of ISKCON in which he proposed the concept of building a temple. The building of the temple started in the year 2000 when the devotees who served Bhanu Swami successfully purchased a plot of land in Chennai. Donations from believers enabled the construction of the temple, which was finally finished in the year 2012.
