In addition to its other name, Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, the Madurai Meenakshi Temple is an ancient Hindu temple that can be found in the city of Madurai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is considered to be one of the most important temples in all of South India and is devoted to the goddess Meenakshi, who is an incarnation of the goddess Parvati, as well as Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here in the shape of Sundareswarar, her spouse. Every year, the temple is visited by tens of millions of people, including worshippers as well as visitors. It is an important landmark in Madurai.
When the Pandya King Kulasekara constructed a temple in the city of Madurai that was devoted to Lord Shiva in the sixth century CE, the beginning of the history of the Meenakshi Temple can be traced back to that time period. Several rulers of the Pandya dynasty, such as King Koon Pandiyan and King Maravarman Sundara Pandiyan, were responsible for the expansion of the temple at a later time. During this time, the shrine of the goddess Meenakshi was added to the complex of the temple.

Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Daily Pooja Seva List Timings And History:
It is said that King Malayadhwaja Pandya and his wife Kanchanamala prayed to Lord Shiva for a child before Meenakshi was born to them. Meenakshi was the answer to their prayers. Meenakshi was born with three breasts, which was a sign that she would one day marry a man who was not quite human. This was an omen that she would marry a demon. As soon as Meenakshi reached her age, she launched a military expedition to capture the neighbouring kingdom of Kailash. While there, she met with Lord Shiva, who had adopted the shape of a human being. After falling in love with one another, the couple decided to be married at the Meenakshi Temple.
The Meenakshi Temple is well-known across the world for its gorgeous architecture and detailed sculptures that can be seen there. The size of the temple complex is around 14 acres, and it comprises a number of halls, shrines, and gopurams, which are towering gates. The gopuram, which stands at a height of 570 metres and is located at the entrance of the temple, is covered with hundreds of sculptures and carvings that portray a variety of Hindu deities and mythical themes.
