What is the pooja procedure of Varalakshmi Vratham?

• Every year Varalakshmi pooja is performed in the Shravana Masam on Friday which is before the full moon day.
• On the day of the Varalakshmi pooja, women get up early in the morning and do all the household rituals.
• Women clean their houses and prepare various Rangolis before their houses.
• On the day of Varalakshmi pooja people have to get up early in the morning and take a head bath in other words also known as Abhyangana Snanam.
• After that idol of Lakshmi Devi is cleaned and kept in Pooja Mantap.
• If there is no idol of Lakshmi Devi in the house then the photo frame of Goddess Lakshmi Devi is kept in Mantap.
• At first, Pooja Mantap should be decorated with flowers.
• Later the idol of Goddess Lakshmi Devi should be decorated with turmeric, Kumkum, Sandal powder, and flowers.
• Kalash Pooja should be performed and after that, Vinayaka Pooja will be performed before starting Goddess Lakshmi Devi pooja.
• Pooja should be performed to the Goddess by chanting the Mantras of Goddess Lakshmi Devi.
• After completing Chanting mantras, Naivedyam will be offered to the Goddess.
• After Naivedyam, Aarti will be performed and pooja will be completed.
• After the completion of the pooja, all Prasadam offered to the goddess will be distributed among family members and relatives.

What are the fasting rules and rituals to be followed on Varalakshmi Devi Pooja?

• On this day, the houses are cleaned and then adorned with rangoli and mango leaves.
• The goddess of riches, Mahalakshmi, will be welcomed to the place of worship in a symbolic manner by painting footprints of the goddess from the threshold all the way into the sacred space.
• Recitations of shlokas that are devoted to the goddess Lakshmi take place.
• The murti (idol) of the goddess Lakshmi has been decked up with adornments.
• A Kalash that is only halfway full of rice and the neck of the pot are garnished with pieces of fresh mango and betel leaves.
• Invoking Goddess Lakshmi in the puja area involves placing a coconut that has been rubbed with haldi and kumkum as well as a piece of cloth.
• Women abstain from food and drink till the puja is complete.
• On this day, special foods like vada, mango rice, and dal vadas, in addition to desserts such as payasam, are cooked.
• Evening ‘Arathi’ sessions are held in homes around the area, and they are attended by women.
