The architectural style known as Vijayanagara was used in the construction of this temple. This place has a long history of being visited by bhaktas, who are religious practitioners, as well as renowned philosophers. The building of the Vontimitta temple in the 16th century was a joint effort by the kings of the Chola and the Vijayanagara empires.
The building of the temple is a rectangle that is enclosed by walls, and one of three spectacular gopuras serves as the entrance to the temple. The middle part of the temple has a mandapam that is surrounded by yali piers on each side, and there are animals located in each of the four corners.
A number of corbels and brackets may be seen along the raised area of the interior of the temple. A tank that was initially constructed under the rule of the Vijayanagara empire may be seen within the Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy temple.

Daily Vontimitta Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple opens in the morning at 6.00 AM and closes in the night at 8.00 PM.
The construction of this temple is said to have taken place in a single day by two committed persons called Vontudu and Mittudu. Both of them made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives so that this magnificent temple with 32 pillars could be constructed, and as a result, they were transformed into statues.
This temple also has sculptures of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, all of which are carved into a single rock. Lord Jambavantha was the one who was responsible for erecting the idol of Lord Rama here. The classic Indian epic Ramayana makes reference to an incident that took place in this region that is known as Kishkindakanda. This story also took place in this region.
One further version of the story suggests that Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana did, in fact, spend some time with one another when they were all living in exile. As Sita began to feel thirsty, Lord Rama shot an arrow deep into the earth, and shortly afterward, delectable water began to emerge from its hiding place. Over a period of time, the water coming from that spring was diverted into two smaller tanks, which were later given the names Rama theertham and Lakshmana theertham.
