On Friday, the day of the Varalakshmi Vratam, the devotees wake up early in the morning and take a bath before beginning their preparations for the day. The hour known as “Brahma Muhurtham,” which occurs shortly before dawn, is considered to be the most auspicious moment for doing the puja in the morning.
Following the completion of the morning rites, the devotees will clean the home as well as the space immediately around it, and then they will adorn the area where the puja will take place with a stunning ‘kolam’ (also known as rangoli).
The ‘Kalasha’ has to be prepared, which brings us to the next stage. You have the option of picking between a silver or bronze pot. Sandalwood paste is then used to cover it after it has been properly cleaned. The Kalasha is then given a swastika emblem to be drawn on it. After that, water or uncooked rice, money, a beetle nut, five various types of leaves, and lime are placed within the Kalasha.

The ‘Kalasham’ pot is utilized in a variety of different ways throughout India, each of which has its own preferred selection of ingredients for stuffing it with. In certain regions, turmeric, black beads, mirrors, combs, and even miniature black bangles and bangles of varying sizes are used to fill the pot.
After that, a clean towel is wrapped around the Kalasha’s neck, and mango leaves are placed over the mouth of the animal. At the very end, the mouth of the Kalasha is covered with a piece of coconut that has been rubbed with turmeric. A representation of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi is either stuck to the coconut or drawn on it using turmeric powder. The Kalasha is now revered as a representation of the goddess Varalakshmi and is done so with complete dedication.
On top of the mound of rice, this Kalasha is positioned. The adoration of Lord Ganesha comes at the beginning of the puja, performed by the devotees. ‘Lakshmi Sahasranamam’ and other slokas that extol the virtues of the Goddess Lakshmi are recited as the first part of the puja. As part of the ritual, unique desserts are prepared at home. Pongal is also distributed as Prasad in the states that are located farther to the south. At long last, the Kalasha is given an aarti ceremony. In addition, as part of the puja, the ladies are required to wrap a yellow thread around both of their hands.
The devotees wash themselves on Saturday, the day following the puja, and then they remove the Kalasha that was utilized during the puja. The water that is contained inside the Kalasha is sprayed all over the home, and any rice that was used is combined with the rice that is kept within the house.
