Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy idol is present in the Ananda nilayam. The idol of Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy on the Ananda Nilayam represents the main deity in the inner sanctum of the Tirumala Temple.

On the Ananda Nilayam, the idol of Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy is covered with silver covering to distinguish the idol from all the other idols on the Ananda Nilayam in Tirumala Temple.

TTD Tirumala Sri Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy History And Darshan

According to the history of Tirumala Temple, it is said that the history of Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy dates back to the time period of Sri Krishnadevaraya’s reign. A great Madhva saint and scholar named Vyasa Teerta was in the court of Sri Krishnadevaraya. One day when King Sri Krishnadevaraya visited Tirumala temple he notices that some of the priests working in the Tirumala temple are wearing the jewelry of Lord Venkateshwara Swamy. King killed the priests on the premises of Tirumala temple.

Saint Vyasa Raya tried to clear the great sin which is committed in the temple and closed the temple doors for 12 years and performed special poojas to get rid of all the sins. During this time when the temple was closed, Saint Vyasa Raya made arrangements to worship Lord Venkateshwara Swamy from outside of the temple by carving the idol of Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy on the Ananda Nilayam. Pilgrims who visited the Tirumala temple during those 12 years worshipped the idol of Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy. After the main temple of Tirumala is opened worshipping the idol of Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy became the ritual.
