The name Japali originates from a sage “Japali” who used to stay in this ashram over there. It is believed that Anjanadri is the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. During the time period of Ramyana, Lord Rama,his consort Seetha and brother Lakshmana stayed here along with Lord Hanuman while they were on vanavasam of 14 years. ‘Rama Kund’ , an eternal water source, was the drinking water and bath for them at that time in the temple premises.
