In the year 1027 A.D., Roop Singh Chauhan and his wife Narmada Kanwar constructed the first version of the Khatushyam Mandir. After some time had passed, in the year 1720 AD, a nobleman named Diwan Abhaisingh undertook the task of renovating and restoring the temple. During this time period, the inner sanctuary was constructed, and the idol was set up within. Additionally, it is the building that has survived to the present day.

Every year, the most important and spectacular event is called Falgun Mela, and it is held at the Khatushyam Mandir. In the month of Falgun (Feb/March), the festival is observed over the course of five days, beginning on the eighth and continuing through the 12th (Ashtami to Dwadashi). In addition to the normal devotees and pilgrims that come to the temple during this time, there are also a number of musicians who come to perform bhajans and aartis for Baba Shyam.

Additionally known as the Nishyan Yatra, this time period. A large number of pilgrims set out on foot at the same time from the neighboring town of Ringus in the direction of Khatu Dham. They go out and buy a banner (called a nishan) to take with them on their 19-kilometer trek, and they march while chanting the name of Shri Shyam. Along the journey, there are also those who give out food to the needy and play with different hues. The devotees take pleasure in this excursion since it represents Khatu Shyam Ji’s wedding.
