Balconies with arched windows may be seen on the top floors of the Taj Mahal. The arches on the ground level are set back and decorated with elaborate details. The curving eaves that wrap constantly around the building provide protection from the sun and rain for the walls of the structure. In all, there are eight pyramidal towers that rise above the building’s center bay and its four corner bays. The ninth tower is situated in the same location as the previous eight, although it is elevated above the center bay.

The arches and the superstructure of the Taj Mahal are supported by a total of twenty-four square pillars. The structure’s pillar arches are adorned with a variety of intricate carvings and works of art of the highest caliber. The walls also include some magnificent designs, birds, Makara Torana, and other characters carved onto them. The whole structure is enclosed by a fortification wall that has a rectangular ground plan and surrounds it completely.

What is the history of the Hampi Lotus Mahal?

The royal ladies of the Vijayanagara Empire had exclusive use of the palace, which was constructed inside the Zenana perimeter and was designated for them. According to several historical sources, the edifice was erected with the purpose of catering to the imperial ladies of royalty.

Additionally, King Krishnadevaraya used this room as his council chamber, where he would confer with his ministers. The royal family often utilized the palace as a location to unwind and rest in their spare time. It is one of the few buildings in Hampi that was not significantly damaged in any way by the invasion that took place there. As a result of repeated attacks by Deccan sultanates and poor upkeep, the palace has fallen into disrepair and has had the majority of its carved ornamentation removed as part of the restoration process.
