The temple occupies 25 acres and is regarded as one of India’s biggest temples. There are four gopurams in the temples, one of which is the tallest in India. The gopuram on the south side is 58.5216 meters tall and the highest in India. There are several shrines in the temple, the most renowned of which are Ekambareswarar and Nilathingal Thundam Perumal. This temple was erected in the 17th century by Pallava rulers. In the 10th century, Adi Sankara remodeled and extended this temple. Panchiyappa Mudaliar visited this temple and spent a lot of money remodeling it such that a pillar has a portrait of him on it. Krishna Deva Raya of the Vijayanagara dynasty constructed a 60-meter gopuram with 540 pillars in 1509.

The temple will open at 6:00 a.m. for ushakkala pooja and shut at 11:00 a.m. for arthajama pooja. That will reopen at 5:00 p.m., followed by Saayaraksha pooja at 6:00 p.m. and Arthajama pooja at 8:30 p.m.

Ekambareswarar temple daily opens in the morning at 6.00 AM and closes at night at 8.30 PM. Daily hundreds of people visit the temple to do the darshan of the main deity and to seek the blessings of the main deity in the inner sanctum.
The temple is located in the Tamil Nadu city of Kanchipuram. The city is well connected by road and train to the rest of the country’s cities. Chennai International Airport is the closest airport. To get to the city, one can take a taxi or cab from the airport, or one can take a bus. In the city, the best means of transportation for commuting is an auto-rickshaw.
The greatest time to visit the temples is during the months of March and April when the temple holds its major celebration. The Falguni Uthiram festival is held in March and April. This event lasts 13 days and is dedicated to the wedding of the presiding god.

Cormorants, Egrets, Grey Herons, Night Herons, Open-Billed Storks, Darters, Ibises, Spoonbills, Grebes, Pelicans, Garganey Teals, Shovellers, Pintails, Stilts, Sandpipers, and other birds may be seen from the sanctuary’s watchtower.
