When is the Dasara Navaratri Ghatasthapana ritual performed in 2023?

In the year 2023, the Darsara Sharadiya Navaratri Ghatasthhapana ritual will be performed on 15 October 2023.

Pouring “holy water” into a ceremonial vessel known as a kalasha as part of a ritual known as Ghatasthapana includes the use of the term “holy water.” In addition, the container is covered with cow dung and barley seeds are put inside of it. After that, the container is placed inside a sand pit, which is then planted with seeds on its own after some time has passed. The Hindus believe that a goddess will migrate inside the vessel as it is being blessed by the priests during the festival and that she will thereafter watch over the festivities.

Beginning on the day of Ghatasthapana and continuing during the whole of the festival, worship should be performed on the Kalash twice daily in the area of the room where it is kept. This practice should continue till the end of the festival.

The Kalash needs to be stored in the particular part of the room that has been designated for its use. In the past, only the male members of the family were permitted to access the chamber where the Kalash is stored.

What is the best time to perform the Ghatasthapana ritual in the Sharadiya Navaratri during the Dasra Festival?

It is strongly suggested that the vidhi, or ritual, of Ghatasthapana, be performed in the early morning, during the first third of the Pratipada tithi. This is because of the significance of the time of day. If the first option is not possible to carry out for any reason, the Ghatasthapana ritual may still be carried out during the Abhijit Muhurat time window.

However, in today’s culture, both men and women are welcome to take part in the ritual. In the past, only male family members were permitted to enter the chamber where the Kalash is kept.

The Kalash is filled with extra water from the sacred well on a daily basis, and then it is covered so that no light may penetrate it. This causes tall grass with a yellowish hue that is known as “jamara” to emerge during the festival. During this time, it is called “jamara.”

In spite of the fact that many of the celebrations associated with Ghatasthapana take place in private settings, the tradition can be found throughout the majority of India. And at this time, people all around the globe take part in celebrations and religious ceremonies in their own traditions.
