What is the legend behind Iskcon Temple?
Temple run by ISKCON Through the guidance provided in the Bhagavad Gita, the benevolent organization that Bangalore is a member of has as its primary mission the dissemination of Krishna Consciousness. In accordance with the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, of 1960, the organization was legally recognized in the year 1978 and started doing business in 1987.
In the same year, the leaders of the group went to the Bangalore Development Authority in order to request that they provide land for the construction of the temple. On August 3, 1988, a hillock spanning seven acres and including a massive rock in its center was given to the officials of the ISKCON temple. A makeshift temple was established there since the land wasn’t suitable for permanent development at the time.
To find a solution to this problem, Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa, who was both a licensed civil engineer and the president of the ISKCON Bangalore Society, enlisted the assistance of Sri Jagat Chandra Dasa, who was an architect in his own right. Together, they devised a stunning design for the architecture of the temple.
The year 1990 saw the beginning of full-scale construction of the ISKCON temple, during which time six hundred highly experienced craftspeople toiled tirelessly around the clock to complete the complex. On May 31, 1997, the ISKCON temple and cultural complex was officially opened by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, who was serving as the President of India at the time.
