Why do people celebrate Dhanteras?

In mythology, Lord Dhanvantari arrived with an urn of nectar in his hands as the ocean was being stirred. This is when the custom of purchasing utensils or ornaments got its start. Dhanvantari also appeared on the Trayodashi day of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month at the same time. Lord Dhanvantari is therefore honored on this day.

2022 Dhanteras Puja Date and Timings on Diwali

On this day, worship is to be performed in accordance with 16 activities. Asana, Arghya, bath, clothing, jewelry, saffron-sandalwood fragrance, flowers, incense, lamp, naivedya, Achaman (pure water), Dakshinayukta Tambul, Aarti, Parikrama, etc. are all included in this action. Lighting a lamp in the house’s courtyard and the main gate in the evening on this day is considered lucky. On the evening of Dhanteras, it is thought that giving a lamp to Yama will liberate you from your fear of Yamraj, the deity of death.
