The Pushkarini was formerly a part of Vaikuntam and was considered to be Sri Maha Vishnu’s property. Garuda was the one who brought it to the ground for Sri Venkateswara to use as a toy when he arrived on Earth. On the day known as Mukkoti Dwadasi, which falls on the twelfth day of the Dhanur Masa fortnight, the Mukkoti of Pushkarini takes place.

The Mukkoti of Pushkarini is the result of the consolidation of more than three crore tirthas that are located in Swami Pushkarini. Some people have the misconception that bathing in the Swami Pushkarini on this particular day is the same as bathing in the Ganges because of the reason stated above.

The Sri Venkateswara temple is located on the southern bank of the Swami Pushkarini River, while the Sri Varahaswami temple is located on the western bank of the river. Both temples are accessible by the Swami Pushkarini. In the months of February and March, the Pushkarini is the site of the festival known as the Teppotsavam, which commemorates Lord Sri Venkateswara. It is also the venue of the Avabhrudhasnanam or Chakrasnanam, which takes place during the Brahmotsavam.
