Dakshineswar Kali Temple History And Significance
What is the history of Dakshineswar Kali Temple?
The history of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple begins in the year 1847 when a widow named Rani Rashmoni made the journey to the city of Banaras with a convoy of twenty-four boats bringing relatives, servants, and laborers in order to demonstrate her love for the Divine Mother. She did this in order to build the Dakshineswar Kali Temple.
It is said in the legend that shortly before the night of the trip, the Divine Mother Kali came in her dream and asked her to construct a shrine for her on the “banks of the river Ganga and there she would accept worship from her devotees.” This happened just before the night of the pilgrimage.
As a result, she embarked on the process of constructing this enormous temple complex, which included sanctuaries dedicated to the deities Radha Krishna, Radha Kali, and Lord Shiva. The whole edifice was constructed over the course of eight years. The chief priest of the temple was a wise old man with a reputation known as Ramkumar.
He was a scholar. However, he passed away within a year of the temple’s establishment, and so the duties were handed on to his brother Ramkrishna. Ramkrishna obtained “moksha” via his love for the Divine Mother, and he gave the Dakshineswar temple a great deal of recognition as a result of his devotion.

Dakshineswar Kali Temple History And Significance
What is the importance/ Significance of Dakshineswar Kali Temple?
The design of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple is such that it provides space for chambers that may be used by both the temple’s employees and its visitors. This is one of the significant aspects of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. There is also an orchard to the north of where the “Panchavati” is located, which has a banyan tree and a Bel tree.
The atmosphere inside the Dakshineswar Kali Temple is unaffected by either praise or condemnation; here, there is no distinction between the poor and the highly placed. Everyone gets along so well together that it’s almost unreal. The passage of time is a mystery at this location. It seems as though time has stopped moving while we are here.
The devotees’ excitement grows as they walk through the streets outside of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple as they anticipate the arrival of Ma Kali, who will soon bestow her love and provide peace to your mind. Anklets, necklaces made of gold and pearls, a garland of human heads fashioned out of gold, and a golden nose ring with a pearl drop are some of the decorations that adorn the Divine Mother.
This is where Sri Ramakrishna would sit for long periods of time to meditate. In recent years, this region had a makeover that emphasized its ethnic character. A spectacular “Natmandir,” or music hall, can be seen within the main temple. Two “Nahabhats,” also known as music towers, can be seen on the grounds of the temple, one each to the northwestern and southwestern corners.
