In the Hindi language, Kal means time and Bhairav refers to the manifestation of the Lord Shiva. Since this is the case, Kaal Bhairav is also known as the “God of Time,” and devotees of Lord Shiva show their utmost devotion in their worship of him.

According to the Shiva Purana, when Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva once talked in the middle of a conversation, Lord Shiva got infuriated due to Lord Brahma. After that, he assumed the shape of “Mahakaleshwar,” and in that form, he severed the fifth head of Lord Brahma.
